Improve Forest Glen Avenue Sidewalk to Multi-use Path
Forest Glen Ave is the primary connection for ward neighborhoods to access the Forest Glen Metra Station, Forest Glen Park, and North Branch Trail. The North Branch Trail extension to just south of the Chicago River has improved conditions for pedestrian and bike safety, however the infrastructure beyond that segment of Forest Glen Ave is lacking.
Pedestrians are faced with crumbling narrow sidewalks that directly abut fast-moving car travel lanes without a parkway or other physical buffer to provide protection. Bikers currently ride in the car travel lane. This improvement would widen the sidewalk to create a safe, buffered multi-use path, separating pedestrians and bikers from car travel. Forest Glen Ave is a key corridor for Metra commuters and park users in the area, so this item would provide both commuter and recreational safety enhancements.

I also suggest a “blinking” stop sign along Forest Glen Avenue at the pedestrian walkway so vehicles will actually STOP.
