When one travels down Montrose the trees create shade and a sense of scale to the neighborhood and shade for the shops.
When one travels west on Lawrence, especially after Kimball, there are NO trees anymore. The streetscape is blazing in the summer and in in winter no holiday lights can hover over sidewalks.
In an age of severe solar radiation and street air pollution, we need to bring trees back onto our streets. The trees eat the CO2 and give us O2. They clean up air pollution, create badly needed shade, and create vistas of social scale.
As a pilot green effort, I propose removing four 7'x20' blocks from the parking lane on Lawrence between Keeler and Tripp to create islands for four trees. We would eliminate 4 parking spots. However, if necessary, to make up for those four spots, we can propose to Fox Lighting to offer public parking in their lot at southeast corner of Tripp and Lawrence.
