Airplane Noise Monitors Throughout the 39th
In November of 2020 O'hare airport put another runway in service. This runway is known as 9 Center. It runs over a majority of the 39th ward. This combined with the runway 9 Right brings constant air traffic over the ward. This increases air noise and other health related effects to our ward. Noise related complaints have increased greatly affecting the sleep of residents and ability to enjoy our outside nature spaces. The noise is also due to the airlines using lower flight paths to save them jet fuel. This is essentially saying that saving them money is more important than our neighborhood and health.
This proposal is to work with the group FAiR in their mission to deploy air noise pollution monitors throughout the ward. These monitors will collect independent true data to help keep the noise pollution under control. These monitors cost about $250 each. Even assisting in funding up to 20 of these would be greatly beneficial.
