Police Support in 17th District
I propose that we allocate 20% of this budget to fund public safety initiatives as prioritized by CPD 17th district. As has been acknowledged, Albany Park gang conflicts have recently spilled over into 39th Ward neighborhoods. Event such as shootings and carjackings affect the security and well-being of all residents.
Some ideas could be: additional intersection cameras, extra patrols/foot patrols, equipment officers, promoting CAPS, promoting neighborhood watch. I would defer to the district on what they think would be most helpful.
This proposal has been not selected because:
All proposals have been rated by the PB Committee to gauge community need and overall impact. I also disagree with you, these programs work when kids are young. These individuals hardly get rehabilitated and in the interim while people want to be touchy feely we’re afraid to walk our kids at night. I would like to prioritize the law abiding citizens of the ward. News flash. There are some really bad kids out there. It’s sad to say, but true.
