Renovate Mayfair Park Basketball Court
This project rebuilds and remodels the basketball court at Mayfair Park.
The basketball court at Mayfair Park currently has only 2 hoops. Several years ago, there were four hoops, centered on each side of the court. The community decided to remove 2 hoops to prevent frequent altercations, caused by people taking over the court as 1 giant full-sized court, rather than sharing the court which would accommodate 4 smaller games.
Mayfair Park Advisory Council is leading an effort to expand the basketball capacity in Mayfair Park. By creating a new configuration offsetting the hoops, there can be 4 games of basketball played simultaneously, which helps Mayfair Park better serve teenagers and adults. In addition, the court can be re-lined and repurposed to play other sports like pickleball or roller hockey. These changes will help Mayfair Park be enjoyed by more Mayfair neighbors and can expand Chicago Park District programming at Mayfair Park.

Thank you very much for your input on this project! It's the mission of Mayfair Park Advisory Council to support the park and provide resources so the park can enrich the lives of all Mayfair neighbors. We believe this project will do exactly that. Official plans are not drawn yet, but I want to be clear that the existing footprint of the playing surface for the basketball court will remain the same or be an imperceptible change (approx 3 feet). We know Mayfair Park is beautiful and we won't change that! It's the placement of the hoops that will allow expansion, not the size of the surface. Mayfair Park's short baseball diamonds are great for little league and softball, and the field house is very small, which facilitates great programming for young patrons. The goal of this project is to serve active teenagers and adults, which are currently underserved with existing programming and park resources. We believe this will address that need and we'd love your support!
