Safer Street Infrastructure at Kolmar/Kennison
The intersection of Kolmar and Kennison needs infrastructure to improve pedestrian safety. This intersection is next to a playground (North Mayfair playlot) and on a route used by children/families going to school (Palmer and Casa dei Bambini Montessori). Kolmar is used as a cut through from Foster to Elston (i.e., non-resident traffic) so people tend to speed. There is a stop sign that’s often obscured by the tree right next to it and drivers tend to roll through. The parked cars obscure the ability for drivers to see approaching pedestrians.
CDOT should install bump outs, raised crosswalk, and/or daylighting at this intersection (as at Lawrence/Kostner by the library). This could include installing planters or small rain gardens that would beautify the neighborhood while increasing safety for everyone. Narrowing the intersection reduces the pedestrian crossing distance. Drivers using a residential block to cut through the neighborhood would have to slow down.

The lighting contrast in the afternoons makes this intersection especially dangerous for pedestrians, as the park side is heavily shaded and the blacktop road glares sunlight.
