Peterson Elementary - Restoration of Fencing on the Peterson Community Field
Peterson Elementary is a neighborhood school that serves over 900 students. After 20-plus years of fundraising the school was awarded TIF and state money for a new school field and ever since the Peterson Community Field officially opened in September 2019 it has been a central gathering space for students and the community.
After four years of heavy use, there has been deterioration of the wood fencing that protected the trees and the fencing has been removed. We want to replace the fencing around the trees and berms with low fencing made up of pressure-treated wood.
When the school and wider community were giving input into the field plans conserving and protecting the trees was of high importance to honor the legacy of Mary Gage Peterson, an avid conservationist, and to allow students to reap the benefits of being in a space with natural elements. This proposal is submitted on behalf of the Peterson administration and LSC.
