Protected Bike Lanes on Bryn Mawr
W. Bryn Mawr Ave. is a busy street, going by Northeastern Illinois University, a commercial corridor (from Kimball to Kedzie), and Northside College Prep. Students from Peterson Elementary, Jamieson Elementary, Northside College Prep, Northside Learning Center and other schools bike to and from school using Bryn Mawr Avenue. However, the lack of biking infrastructure makes cycling risky and unsafe for young commuters. By adding protected bike lanes from N. California Ave., past W. Kedzie Ave. and through to N. Pulaski Rd., this connects parks such as Legion Park and major thoroughfares. This proposal would make cycling safer, encourage more people to bike, and increase business in the area.

The more thoughtfully installed bike lanes, the better! There has been state funding allotted ($600,000) for the construction of protected bike lanes on Bryn Mawr between the North Shore Channel on the east and the Skokie Valley Trail to the west (where Bryn Mawr gets cut off west of Pulaski). This wouldn't go all the way to California as you suggest, but it promises to be a huge improvement. As soon as CDOT begins a public engagement process for this project, the Hollywood-North Park Community Association will try and rally as much community participation as possible.
