Pulaski Road Diet
Pulaski between Foster and Peterson is a dangerous “STROAD,” in need of updating. Drivers routinely exceed the posted 30 mph speed limit, it’s never monitored and the design promotes speed.
Pulaski from Peterson to foster should follow the model of Lawrence, from Western to Damen to discourage speeding.
Attached are a couple of ideas on how we can go about this…

I regularly bike on Pulaski between Foster and Devon. Nearly every time I ride on it, I see other people biking on the sidewalk—a sign that people want/need to bike on this stretch of road, but don’t feel safe enough to do it on the street. I am comfortable biking on the streets of Chicago, but this road makes me nervous. I wouldn’t bike on it with my daughter. It’s a shame because it connects to multiple useful bike trails, which are harder to access because of Pulaski’s design.
The sidewalk is narrow for pedestrians. There is no median between the sidewalk and the steeet. The bus stops are unsheltered and cramped onto the sidewalk. The car lanes are wider than they need to be and aren’t clearly painted, which encourages speeding. This road could be made more useful and safer to all road users—pedestrians, bikers, bus riders, cars—if we do a road diet and clearly delineate space for bikers and buses.
James, totally agree! We should see something like Lawrence between Western and Damen or Broadway from Foster to Lawrence.

In several spots the sidewalk is too narrow to fit a wheelchair or stroller.
Scott, we can only hope changes are made!
