Tree Grates 3200/3400 W Bryn Mawr
The commercial corridor of 3200 to 3400 W. Bryn Mawr is lined by 50 trees, 46 of these trees are planted in individual square sidewalk cut-outs. A few of the businesses maintain these cut-outs by providing mulch and cleaning trash. However the majority of tree cut-outs go neglected and garbage collects.
I propose the installation of metal tree grates in these cut-outs. The grates would improve sidewalk appearance, add additional surface area for pedestrians and make it easier for businesses to remove trash and snow.
As mentioned there are 50 trees on Bryn Mawr, but four along Peterson Elementary school are located in a parkway and would not need grates. Other business corridors in the city have attractive grates such as those in the Irving Park/Milwaukee/Cicero Six-Corners area.
