The Horner Park Advisory Council (HPAC) supports additional funding for the Dog Park. The dog park is a welcoming community gathering space and one of the park’s most-used amenities. HPAC began working on this neighborhood project in 2012, and it is community funded and maintained by volunteers. The Chicago Park District does not contribute to the funding for dog parks in Chicago. More than $175,000 has been raised over the last eight years through contributions from neighbors and local businesses; however, projects of this scope are extremely expensive. The fencing went up in 2018, and Phase Two work – which included a paved entryway, water fountain and benches – was completed this summer. But there is more left to do, including the installation of turf play fields so the park can be better used in all weather conditions. Upgrades will also make the dog park more ADA accessible.
