Police Support in 17th District
I propose that we allocate 20% of this budget to fund public safety initiatives as prioritized by CPD 17th district. As has been acknowledged, Albany Park gang conflicts have recently spilled over into 39th Ward neighborhoods. Event such as shootings and carjackings affect the security and well-being of all residents.
Some ideas could be: additional intersection cameras, extra patrols/foot patrols, equipment officers, promoting CAPS, promoting neighborhood watch. I would defer to the district on what they think would be most helpful.

Thank you for your concern over our ward's safety! But with all due respect, I am against this proposal.
There are other and more effective ways to combat crime and violence, which is solving the causes of crime, rather than sending more police (and risking police lives even more!) to lock more and more people up.
Crime and gang violence are symptoms of major problems in the US, such as lack of universal healthcare, institutional racism, etc.
Adding $100,000 to our ever-increasing police budget will not really help our communities.
I disagree with you and would be happy to hear what the 17th district PD needs. Rather than dismissing their needs, I prefer to support the folks who put their lives at risk for the rest of us every day. I applaud your sentiments and wish that I felt we could solve our issues in the short run by tackling the systemic issues you mention. The real feet on the street can make a difference today. Thank you.
I also disagree with you, these programs work when kids are young. These individuals hardly get rehabilitated and in the interim while people want to be touchy feely we’re afraid to walk our kids at night. I would like to prioritize the law abiding citizens of the ward. News flash. There are some really bad kids out there. It’s sad to say, but true.
