Kostner Overpass Safety Improvements - School walking path
Several aspects of the Kostner Ave underpass need addressing. This is a main walking path for student of Belding and Saint Ed’s.
The sidewalk needs to be repaired and leveled. You almost have to be qualified for American Ninja warrior to make it through
The lighting needs to be converted to LED, improving visibility.
Of course, there are the pigeons as well. Tracking filth into our schools and sending our kids home sick.
Would be great to address any of the above. Current pigeon solutions don’t seem to help. Regular roost removal would be best.

When coming off the Montrose Blue Line, Kostner Ave is the first North/South street east of the Kennedy that pedestrians can walk all the way through from Montrose to Irving Park. Many commuters use this street! Employees of Koch use it for all three shifts, including overnight. Students of Belding and St Ed’s use it every week day. But the underpass is not maintained for pedestrian use. It needs a completely new sidewalk, it is currently fractured and bucked, and isn’t safe to walk or ride bikes on. It’s a danger to pedestrians. And the lighting needs improvement, it’s so poorly lit that I always move off the sidewalk and on to the street when walking through at night. This needs attention before someone is seriously injured.
