Educational River Signage Throughout 39th Ward
Our ward contains the largest segments the Chicago River than any other ward in the. We need to celebrate this natural asset and promote awareness of urban waterways within our ward.
This budget item would fund educational signage at multiple locations throughout the 39th Ward to educate pedestrians about wildlife habitats and sustainable stormwater management. Signs can be located at bridge crossings and along trails that will be highly visible.
Similar signage has already been installed in other neighborhoods in Chicago. The first phase of signs can begin a program that can be expanded in future years throughout the ward.

Would love for this to include information on the native tribes that have called this area home. The river was a central element in their lives. I've been told that Gompers Park used to be a meeting place due to the oxbow in the river. Archeologists have found evidence of historic encampments in LaBagh Woods.
