Crosswalk Installation at N Central Ave & N Leonard Ave
My proposal is to install one stop sign and a crosswalk at the intersection of N. Central Ave. and N. Leonard Ave. Although extremely close to the North Branch Trail, the neighborhood encapsulated by N. Central Ave., Elston, and the Edgebrook golf course has no safe way to access the forest preserve and its trails. People who wish to utilize the trails must run across Devon or Central, which is dangerous for pedestrians and drivers alike. There is also a bus stop at this intersection, which also does not have a safe way for passengers to cross the street if they need to.
At N. Central Ave. and N. Leonard Ave. there are already stop signs on Central southbound and on Leonard Ave. All that would be necessary for my proposal is to install a stop sign at the intersection on the northbound side of N. Central Ave. and paint a crosswalk. The cost would be minimal but the benefits would be substantial for an entire neighborhood in the community.
This proposal has been not selected because:
Stop signs do not require funding through PB. The Ward Office will work on this request.

This is a good location to install improved pedestrian access. It may be challenging due to the existing facility which occurs on a curve and had guardrails on both sides of the road. Consider extending the shoulder buffer on the northbound lane into the curve or instead installing a pedestrian island between directions of travel at the proposed crossing location to simplify crossing and improve pedestrian visibility which would be a concern at this location. May also require supplemental signing and/or pavement markings such as a flashing beacon to ensure compliance.
