Bike Lanes and Traffic Calming on W. Bryn Mawr Ave.
Location: W. Bryn Mawr Ave., from North Shore Channel Trail to Skokie Valley Line Trail.
In the past 20 years, developing a safe bicycle infrastructure has been a big part of the City of Chicago’s commitment to improving residents’ quality of life. Cycling is an increasingly popular way to commute, exercise, and relax.
Bryn Mawr is a designated bike route, but it has minimal signage and suffers from chokepoints where cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians compete for space. Marked, protected bike lanes would increase overall safety for all. Bryn Mawr is critical to the Chicago Streets for Cycling Plan as it serves as the main link between the North Shore Channel Trail (5500 N, 3100 W) and the Sauganash/Valley Line Trail (5600 N, 4300 W). These improvements would not just benefit bicyclists, they would also make our streets safer by clearly indicating to drivers and pedestrians where to expect to see cyclists. This project would connect the neighborhoods of North Mayfair, North Park, Brynford Park, Sauganash, Sauganash Park, Peterson Park, and Albany Park.
Additionally, users will bike through the North Park business district. Additionally, to promote greater public safety for bikers and pedestrians alike, this proposal also includes traffic calming measures, such as pavement markings and stop signs.

Second that! Perhaps include two way intersection at Bryn Mawr / Sauganash Trail - many collisions where the path and bryn mawr merge.

It would be nice to see some street-level visual renderings of with more detail. It's harder to get people to support a project if they can't visualize it.
Completely agree! Some visualization may help.
Bryn Mawr Ave is a very sensible connection between the Sauganash Trail and LaBagh Woods to the bike routes to the east of the ward. Much of Bryn Mawr's frontage faces parks and cemeteries makes this a safer alternative than other east/west options such as Peterson or Foster. Bike route striping (dedicated bike lanes or sharrows) will improve safety greatly, as seen throughout the city. Businesses will also benefit if CDOT can routinely increase bike parking facilities.
Investments in bike transit infrastructure are great ideas for our ward as light improvements to our public transit options.
I can help with renderings if the original post can be altered to include!
I live off Bryn Mawr west of Pulakski and cars speed through west to the dead end blocked by the trail. Traffic calming is very much needed in this area.
Bike lane should continue down Bryn Mawr from Pulaski to Kedzie (within the 39th Ward). This area would benefit from having a protected bike lane the whole way. The parking lane could be pushed into the street, leaving room for a bike lane against the curb. Between Pulaski and Kimball, there should be enough width for a dedicated bike lane protected by the parking lane.
In addition to the Sauganash Trail, Bryn Mawr leads to the Weber Spur Trail, a scant 2000-foot distance from the new North Branch Trail just south along the Weber Spur.

Also you can use this to view Bryn Mawr overall and the shared lane that exists from Bernard to Kedzie currently: https://apps.cnt.org/bikechi/#

Pave the 2000-foot section of the Weber Spur between the Valley Line Trail and the new North Branch Trail.
I agree, Bob. Union Pacific still owns the land on the section of the Weber Spur between the Valley Line Trail and the Southern Extension of the North Branch Trail.
This proposal is for Bryn Mawr Avenue - from the Valley Line Trail to the North Shore Channel Trail.
I want to vote for the Solomon playground improvement but that playground needs much more than $500k worth of work.
A network of protected bike lanes is a must in the city!
We could also use a fleet of sidewalk plows to clear the public sidewalks of snow.
Last year, the committee proposed that such a long stretch of Bryn Mawr get bike lanes that the price tag was huge. Since people had to vote within budget constraints, the high price tag meant that people voting for the bike lanes on Bryn Mawr couldn't vote for any other project. I think it's likely that this diminished support for the project. I suggest that the committee focus on Central Park to Pulaski only in order to try and keep the price down.
At the candidate forum in January, Alderman Nugent said that she was trying to bring bike lanes to Bryn Mawr. This is good! Why are we crossing our fingers on participatory budgeting again for this project? Why doesn't she add some additional menu money (that she exempts from PB) to make this happen?
I am new to this process. I support the proposal, both for the traffic calming and the bike lanes. I see that the proposal is more than a year old. I don't understand really what is happening here,
