Solomon Elementary School Playground and Site Improvements
Location: Solomon Elementary School, 6206 N. Hamlin Ave.
The playground and expansive asphalt schoolyard at Solomon Elementary School in North Park are vital public spaces for families throughout the year despite a lack of seating. The rubber safety surface below the play equipment is completely broken in many locations, and the schoolyard does not incorporate adequate outdoor teaching facilities. Building from a robust public survey conducted by the principal of Solomon Elementary, menu money would be spent on the highest concerns for playground safety repairs, durable public benches, and natural play equipment that can serve as an outdoor classroom.

Always sitting on the hot and rocky asphalt because there are no benches or seats of any kind is disrespectful to students and teachers and neighbors. Kids try getting comfortable on the incredibly small patch of plastic grass and then spill gatorade and food all over it. Solomon has been stuck with this horrible area since I was a baby and now I'm in high school. It has only gotten worse.
