Albany Park "gateway" for people arriving on the L by Kedzie and Leland
*Proposal by 33rd Ward resident*
This proposal has been not selected because:
This idea requires a longer drawn-out process to come up with a design, proposal and gather community input. As a start to these conversations, we have included a ballot item for seating at this intersection. If the project wins, the office will initiate community input process to begin discussions of design and implementation.

For one thing, there are non-functioning light posts at Leland-Kedzie that look like they were installed in the 1970s and could be removed and/or replaced. The intersection itself, in the heart of Albany Park and a gateway to neighborhood prides like Noon-O-Kabob, Andy's Fruit Ranch, Kabobi, and the street-surface L station could use a "welcome to this special neighborhood" feel--something as simple as decorated or raised brick crosswalks (ala the crosswalks near the Albany Park Library at Foster/Kimball) or more involved with signage, decorative lighting, bump outs, and such. Kedzie-Leland is the first intersection an L rider comes across after departing the station and it's currently rather unfriendly to pedestrians.
