Comments from 33rd Ward's office - There is a camera within a block from this intersection at Lawrence & Drake and another two blocks away. Neighbors should consider this when deciding whether to move idea forward.
I have seen many objections to street cameras. One man said it was an invasion of privacy. Gezzz... The proposed cameras are going to be "In Public." There is no privacy in public. The cameras will not be open to the public. In the future, the cameras could be used to find an elderly person who is lost and does not know how to get back to his home, a few blocks away. Could help to find somebody's lost dog.

Every dollar for this proposal should be put towards building up the community rather than policing it.
Says every socialist in AP who never personally suffered a loss to murder or personally known a police officer killed in the line of duty. Blah blah blah... building up the community but do not dare to gentrify because that will cause rent to rise and price out white socialist. Despite what socialist spin bad guys do get caught, arrested and prosecuted and yes even sent to prison. Law abiding people want to be able to leave the home and return and night in safety. Gun fire even if the bullets do not maime or kill people is frightening. People do not want to be carjacked or have catalytic converters stolen. Neighborhoods who support the police, alderman who work with the police and neighborhoods that do not have police pulled from their district have less crime. Lets have more community watch groups and have a commitment to call the police when a crime occurs. More cameras do not hurt.

Thanks Joe. The problem with your suggesting is that police cameras are reactive and not proactive. When you say "bad guys do get caught" you're not stopping a "bad guy" from doing anything, you're just catching them after the fact. I would like to see money put towards increasing opportunities for people in our community so that they never become "bad guys" in the first place. When we further fund police cameras we're actually taking money out of our community as the vast majority of police don't live in the communities they work in.
As I said and you ignored. All is fine with your agenda until you lose someone by violence and you reconsider and understand that there are violent criminals. These violent criminals never asked for or wanted the help you are suggesting. If violent criminals live near you the chances of you finding this out are increased.
