Make Armitage Safe for Everyone
Armitage Avenue is a major commercial district in the 1st Ward. From Humboldt to Western, it stretches over 3/4 mile within the ward with landmark businesses like Parson's Chicken & Fish, 90 Miles Cuban Cafe, and the Freeze.
It is also miserable to be near, because of reckless drivers and boom cars. For a road with only two lanes, it produces an incredible amount of noise and a lot of crashes. Nearly every crosswalk has faded away, drivers do not yield to pedestrians, and outdoor conversations are interrupted every thirty seconds by roaring motors or pounding bass. Anyone who has tried to have an outdoor drink or dinner knows what I mean.
Armitage is much better east of Western, with bike lanes and slower traffic. We should continue the bike lanes and add much better crosswalks at locations like Foodsmart, the Freeze, and Rockwell where people are frequently waiting to cross.
Slower traffic will save lives, reduce noise, and help out the businesses.

This is precisely the type of proposal that could be fully addressed by the Ward's infrastructure funds. Pedestrian bump-out features at each intersection would begin at $50,000 per corner
